Making Seattle Autism Ready
Assessing and Changing Knowledge of and Attitudes towards Autistic Individuals
What is autism spectrum disorder?

The goal of this project is to transform Seattle into the model Autism Ready city where autistic members of our community and their families are welcomed and included as contributing members at professional and social endeavors.
To achieve our goal we will seek to:
- understand and measure neuro-typical community members’ knowledge of and attitudes towards autism.
- design and deploy interventions (in the form of training and awareness campaign) to address gaps in knowledge of and dispel negative attitudes toward autism.
- assess the impact of our interventions on knowledge and attitudes.
Expected Outcomes:
- Develop an empirical and conceptual understanding of knowledge and attitudes neuro-typical individuals hold of autism.
- Inform effective design, deployment, and measurement of interventions aimed to dispel misunderstandings of individuals with autism.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive community for individuals with autism.
- Create inclusive workplaces that will enrich and empower the lives of autistic individuals.
We aim to develop interventions to welcome individuals with autism and their families in the context of their social endeavors and empower them in work setting.
